The night is young and the moon is bright. It is the perfect set up for renowned abstract artist Norberto Carating’s one-man exhibit at the Radisson Blu Cebu.

In his words, ”My work is a reflection of my soul and the memories I hold." - Mr. Carating is definitely a man of emotions and talent. In a span of 5 decades, he has showed his masterpieces in Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Spain, Germany, Cuba, Canada and the US.

I have always been a fan of the arts. In fact, when I was younger, I joined poster making contests in school. My love for the arts extended to loving the world of design and fashion. I say, fashion is very much influenced by the arts. The painting behind me is titled, "Early Morning Light." Mr. Carating created this in 1996. This painting reminded me of how I would play with my crayons and create different lines in different vibrant colors. I believe that the beauty of abstract paintings lies in how someone interprets what he sees. It makes you think deeper and wider. They are not just acrylic paints mixed together but colors intertwined by passion and intense emotions. What totally amazed me in his works is his technique on how to draw lines while keeping the metallic paints so vibrant and alive. His take on fine lines, geometrical shapes and colors is very interesting and captivating. It feels like time has stopped and you are just standing in awe in front of these beautiful pieces of art.

The art exhibit is a collection of 13 and more abstract paintings by Norberto Carating over a span of 50 years. Organized by Hiraya Gallery and Qube Gallery, these paintings serve as a recollection of how the master of his art, Mr. Carating evolved from being a young painter from the Univeristy of the Philippines to now a renowned abstractionist celebrated by his peers and followers all over the world.

If you have the time today, these abstract paintings by Norberto Carating are open for public viewing at the Radisson Blu Cebu. The exhibit will run until April 17, 2017.
