Even before I became a personal style and fashion blogger, for those people who know me personally, they would tell you that I am an expert in Ukay-ukay. Well, who wouldn’t be when you grew up going to Carbon to thrift shop with your mother, right? I can still vividly remember when I would still go to the ukay-ukay with only Php100 in my pocket. I would save up money from my baon in school so I can go thrift shopping. Anyway, fast forward to present - now my mother scolds me for buying so much stuff in the ukay-ukay. Hahaha Mom, you should blame yourself for introducing me to ukay-ukay.
It’s 2 o’clock and I am about to thrift shop with one of my blogger friends Naomi of jugsandpugs. The pressure was on me because it’s Naomi’s first time to go to the ukay-ukay in Cebu. I wanted her experience to be fun and productive at the same time. She is American-Mexican. So, I prepared myself with a thick hard bound dictionary to prevent me from nosebleeding. Hahaha Kidding aside, I think we fairly did well. She got a lot of stuff for under Php80 each. As for me, I also bought a lot. It was a bagful of thrift finds. If you followed me on Instagram, I bet you saw everything I purchased.
Anyway, this blogpost is just about one of my ukay-ukay finds that day. Hmmm but not really, because it was Naomi who pushed me to purchase this striped polo. I was a little effy at first because it wasn’t my size. But since I loved the stripes and the fabric, I decided to buy it. Well it was only for Php35. Not bad for a French Connection long-sleeved polo. French Connection is a global clothing brand which is also known as FCUK. So I definitely made a bargain.
The denim pants I am wearing I also thrifted for only Php50 a long time ago. This patched-distressed style is very on trend right now. I saw similar pants in different clothing brands in Ayala. They were priced more than Php1500. Now, you do the math.
Now, how I styled them together is quite simple. Every fashion blogger knows his basics and this is just one of them. I just wore a basic white tee, layered it with the polo and then the denim pants for the bottom. I completed the look with a pair of white sneakers. I think this look is fresh and easy to pull off. Even women can rock this look. An oversized polo is also on trend right now. I find women who wear oversized polo really sexy. Hahaha Anyway, an oversized polo for only Php35 and a pair of denim pants for Php50 are definitely not bad for a self proclaimed ukay-ukay expert. Would you agree? hmmm please do. I wouldn’t be the style or fashion blogger that I am today without some cheap finds in the ukay-ukay. I hope you try this look and feel free to message me if you need some help. Enjoy thrift shopping! :)
